The Knowledge
All London Black cab drivers are required to take "The Knowledge" which over the space of about 3 – 4 Years will ensure that they know all the streets of the Fair City
As mention before I was a Despatch Rider so I do know London pretty well, expertly well if im blunt,
So im in Highgate this evening and need to get to Willesden NW2, So i jump in the cab and say Willesden Lane please, so off he sets and im wondering where he is going, When he gets to Swiss Cottage i ask him why he is going this way, as im watching the meter clock up, Oh the traffics bad he pipes up, To which there is a swift reply “BOLLOCKS”, why did you not go via Hampstead Health, drop down through Spaniards , Across the Finchley Road, Across the North Circular, Down into Kilburn High Road, Up Walm Lane and there you are Willesden Lane, See they have to be accountable, so when we get there the Meter is saying £22.50, and he is well and truly stressed now, as im giving it to him big time, asking him for his Badge number [If your ever have a disagreement with a black cab driver always get his badge number and not the cab number, as there share cabs, but his badge is his, and if they have been ripping people off AKA like above , they can be brought to the Hackney Carriage office and investigated, and possibly lose there badge, which means that they can not drive.]
So the meter is saying £22.50, and he makes a feeble attempt to knock some money off, let’s call it £15.00, No way mate lets call it £10.00 and we are sorted, so i got it for £10.00. I hate it when those bastards try and rob people, mind you the look on his face when i asked him why he had not gone the shortest route was worth the £10.00.
