Bright Spark
Ever wondered what the end of a high performance xenon lamp looks like, these pictures where taken of a 15KW SQP Xenon lamp after running at 375 – 385 amps for around 1087 hours, as you can see from the pictures there is evidence of electrode damaged or as its technically termed “RIPPLE DAMAGED” caused by the 3 phases splitting and passing across the arc.
To say these lamps run hot would be a slight understatement, when struck the bulb is under around 50 Atmospheres in pressure, even cold they are a lethal. You are expected to allow them at least 20 mins to cool down before you even start to attempt removal of them, on Tuesday night, the machine stopped around 22:30 ish, lets just say by 23:15 some 45 mins later both lamps were out and new Ushios were in place with CCU Test already done, I swear at one stage when we were removing the end mechanicals the lamps were still warm.
