My First Cinema

Whilst surfing the tinternet i came upon a picture of where it all started, Used to be called the Fair World, a single screen cinema. On the outside just to the right and left of the present owners sign you can see the old poster frames non of this new fangled enclosed frames, these posters where stuck to the back board, come rain or shine you had to climb the ladder, with the poster and the paste.

The 4 windows at the top front were where the projection room, and rewind room were, as well was the poster room.

The metal balcony was straight out of the projection room, great in summer time, all the portholes had fire shutters on them so you could open the door and get some fresh air, which you needed as it was carbon arc lights then.

Classic cinema, tabs, foot lights, usherettes, the Manager and Head cashier would stand at the door and say good evening to every patron leaving, double features, and the films changed on the Wednesday and Sunday, kids clubs on a Saturday.

Just typing this brings back so many great memories
